Real-time Gpu Photon Mapping

چکیده

Photon mapping, an algorithm developed by Henrik Wann Jensen [1], is a more realistic method of rendering a scene in computer graphics compared to ray and path tracing. Unlike ray tracing, photon mapping first emits lots of photons from light sources in a scene and then uses the photon map to calculate the radiance of each pixel in the rendered scene. Previous work in the area include a GPU photon mapper written by Stanford Graphics [1], but there do not exist any real-time renderers yet. For this project, a real-time GPU photon mapper using Nvidia CUDA will be implemented.

Simulating Photon Mapping for Real-time Applications

This paper introduces a novel method for simulating photon mapping for real-time applications. First we introduce a new method for selectively redistributing photons. Then we describe a method for selectively updating the indirect illumination. The indirect illumination is calculated using a new GPU accelerated final gathering method and the illumination is then stored in light maps. Caustic ph...

Combining Soft Shadow and Image Space Photon Mapping for Global Illumination

Real-Time global illumination is a very important topic in the field of computer graphics. The improvement of GPU architectures in recent years has made GPU-based rendering algorithms essential to the production of high-quality images in real time. This paper proposes a novel global illumination algorithm that combines image space photon mapping and soft shadow effects. The photon splatting pha...

Real-Time Photon Mapping on GPU

This paper presents a hybrid photon-mapping approach for global illumination . It represents a significant improvement over a previously described approach, both with respect to speed and accuracy. Using OptiX for ray tracing provides a considerable improvement in the speed of ray tracing and would keep synchronization to a minimum by using texture memory to cache access to the photon informati...

Photon Mapping On The GPU

This paper discusses photon mapping and explores various issues of implementing the algorithm using the parallel processing power of the GPU via CUDA. The first implementation is a straight-forward, naive implementation of photon mapping using a simple scene consisting of only Lambertian surfaces. Then, the implementation is modified to address various shortcomings of the naive implementation, ...

Real-time Volume Caustics Rendering in Single-Scattering Media

Volume caustics are beautiful patterns of light which are formed by light that first interacts with a specular surface and that is then scattered inside a participating medium. Although this phenomenon can be simulated, its generation process is usually non-trivial and time-consuming. Motivated by interactive applications, we propose a novel volume caustics rendering method for single-scatterin...
